Hoops
of Hope is celebrating its sixth year of ministry. Thank you
for coming along for the ride! It will be awesome to see what
God has planned in the years to come. I've decided to go to
a quarterly format for 'Happenins' and you will now receive
it four times a year. Last year was awesome because I was able
to do 125 ball-handling shows in 13 states and 4 countries.
I had contact with nearly 58,000 and 596 prayed to receive
Christ! The Lord has been such a blessing to Dina, Seth
and I. He has provided all that Hoops of Hope needs. Eye
surgery is another blessing that the Lord has brought my way.
At the end of April I am going to have LASIK surgery done and
the best part is the doctor is doing it for free! He is a Christian
and this is his gift to HOH.
Trinidad
and Tobago
Hoops of Hope is going to Trinidad and Tobago May 4-12. We need players,
coaches and administrators to go. Our focus will be school assemblies,
basketball clinics and games. These will be used as a way to draw crowds
and then share the Gospel. The cost will be $1,500. The country of Trinidad
and Tobago is made up of two islands right off the coast of Venezuela.
If you have a desire to serve on a short-term missions team, this is
the place for you!
What
God is Teaching
I was recently on my way to do a show in Longview, TX and had to take
a plane through Dallas. I landed in Dallas and had about 40 minutes till
my next flight left so I stopped to pick up some lunch. I then started
walking to my gate. It ended up being about a half-hour ordeal to get
to my plane. As you can guess, I was about two minutes late and they
would not let me on even though the plane was right there (talk about
frustrating!) There is also a new regulation that they have to close
the door to the plane ten minutes before departure. If I can't make it
to the show, there is going to be about 500 disappointed people. I had
a decision to make, blow my top or remain calm. The Lord helped me and
I was rebooked for the next flight, a three-hour wait but I would be
able to make the show. I was thinking, "Alright Lord, you must have wanted
to get my attention, now You have it". I have been studying the Gospel
of John lately so I decided to read John 13. It tells of the night before
Jesus was arrested and about a very important lesson that He needed to
teach His disciples. Jesus takes a towel and wraps it around Himself
and begins to wash the disciple's feet. This job was for a lowly servant
to do because many people wore sandals and it was a stinky and thankless
job, but that night, the King of the universe did it. An interesting
side-note, Jesus washed all of the disciple's feet including Judas Iscariot,
who was later to betray Him. In verses 12-17 it says, "When he had
finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his
place. 'Do you understand what I have done for you?' he asked them. "You
call me Teacher and Lord and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that
I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash
one another's feet. I have set an example that you should do as I have
done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master,
nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know
these things, you will be blessed if you do them." NIV
In
one of Jesus' hardest hours, He was thinking about us. He was
serving us and teaching us to serve. Now that was a lesson
that was worth missing a plane!
