Kevin
and I finished our summer basketball camp tour. We were in Colorado,
California and Florida directing eight weeks of basketball camp.
We had around 450 kids and about 50 prayed to receive the Lord!!
That was the good news. Now for the “inside story” of
what it was really like. This summer has been full of struggles,
ups and downs; lower than expected enrollment, cancellation of one
camp, some sickness and mental battles. This has been the strangest
summer we have ever had and yet God continues to do His work! It
is awesome how he works through disappointments and we need to just
get on His timetable instead of the other way around. Romans 5:2b-5
says, “And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not
only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that
suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character,
hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out
his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” NIV
Even when things are not going very well, even when we want to quit,
God is at work. His results will be produced, not only in the situation
but also in us! So even though many things did not go the way I envisioned
them, I am still very happy with the results because they are His
results. I also believe that when we are in the greatest battle that
God has something even bigger planned for us. The struggles are like
a refiner’s fire to gold. It burns out all the impurities.
I felt that fire for several months and God is continually molding
me in His image. It seems like I have to learn the same lesson over
and over again but God loves me too much to let me continue down
a wrong path. I believe our greatest days in Hoops of Hope lie ahead!
That is why I would like to announce…

Building a Better Basketball Player DVD Set
Hoops of Hope would like to announce the release of its 4 DVD basketball
instructional set. The DVD’s include basic ball handling, shooting,
advanced ball handling and playmaking.
Each DVD will include the “Hoops of Hope Basketball Show”,
a testimony and a Gospel presentation. This is a great teaching resource
but can also be used as a ministry tool. We are currently selling them
for $95 on www.hoops.org or our new web site
www.buildingabetterbasketballplayer.com.
Check them out because they are all new and you can even view a promo
video of the DVD’s. Also, if you would like to become a distributor
of the DVD’s, we have a competitive profit sharing plan. Please
be in prayer for this project because we had to take a great financial
risk to get them produced but I truly believe that God has awesome things
planned for them!!

I wanted to inform you all that God has
directed me into pastoral ministry. I have accepted a call to be an
associate pastor at Casper Evangelical Free Church in Casper, Wyoming.
This fall I will be transitioning out of Hoops of Hope and moving north.
Allow me to briefly share what I have learned these past 3 years followed
by an explanation of what lies ahead.
From prison doors to the streets of Rome this has been an awesome ride.
I never could have imagined sharing the Gospel in front of hundreds of
murderers, rapists, drug addicts and other criminals, but by the grace
of God I did. My experiences at Hoops of Hope under Brent helped me to
find my calling and my gifts. My leadership skills were honed in as I led
our prison ministry and overseas missions. Overall, I have come to learn
that there is the gift of evangelism and a gift of teaching/preaching and
those are two separate gifts from God. I found my calling to be more in
the area of equipping through leadership, teaching, and preaching. This
is my passion and joy in ministry. Through activity with my local church
as a deacon and elder I was able to further test these gifts and get confirmation
from other wise leaders.
My relationship with Hoops of Hope is not done by any means. I will be
staying on in an advisory role and as a consultant during the transition
time. I also will be leading our Italy 2006 trip as well as training some
men to take over the prison ministry. Finally, I will be open to possible
camps, clinics and conferences I can do as a representative of Hoops of
Hope in the future. Rachel and I will stay on staff at least until the
early fall because there are many things to wrap up plus we have to sell
our house. Please be in prayer for us during this new and exciting transition.

| Basketball Camps |
|

Well, after 5 weeks of basketball camps, I can admit that I needed a
break. This summer we had a record number on the court with 100 campers
at Rocky Mountain Calvary and with temperatures of 100 plus degrees
at other camps. Nearly 50 campers at the camps accepted Christ. PTL!
God also tested my faith several times as many parents waited until
the last minute to sign up for a camp. I often had to join our host
in prayer so we would not have to cancel and then God answered with
over 30 sign-ups each time. God is good and often His timing allows
us to grow our faith in His provision.
Among the many highlights of my summer was the dedication of our
volunteer coaching staff. These young high school and college students
volunteered their time to work with us. Some worked for a week and
some for as many as 4 weeks. Our camps would not be the same without
them because they each helped us make a special connection with every
boy or girl at camp. They are often the heroes of these young kids
who beg them for autographs at the end of the week. Thank you so
much coaches.

our website updated! If you have not done so already, you must check
it out. We also now have a shopping cart for you to get DVD’s
and or merchandise.
ITALY
2006
That’s right we are going back to Rome. March 22nd- April 1st 2006
we will have another team assembled to minister with Tim and Janet Hall
our host missionaries. We are accepting applications for the team currently.
Boaz Prayer Request
*To sell our house and make an easy transition to Casper
*My sister in law Erika Boaz who has a high risk pregnancy and is on
bed rest until November. Please pray for their baby girl to make it full
term.
*For families who will go unnamed that are having spiritual and marital
problems.
*For DVD to sell to the people who need to hear the Gospel & wouldn’t
hear it otherwise.
Dina and I would like to take this time to thank Kevin and Rachel
for their three years of service to Hoops of Hope and more importantly
to our Savior. They have been tremendous and will be greatly missed.
Phil. 1:6 says it best, being confident of this, that he who began
a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of
Christ Jesus. NIV
I wish nothing but blessings for you and precious Naomi as you close
this chapter and open a brand new one!
